We discussed this before I entered https://shibboleth.atlassian.net/browse/IDP-2012 ( https://shibboleth.atlassian.net/browse/IDP-2012 ) and I demurred because of my perception that this might be complex.

In looking at https://shibboleth.atlassian.net/browse/IDP-2013 ( https://shibboleth.atlassian.net/browse/IDP-2013 ) I realized that this is super easy - and in fact we already do this for idp-conf.

Moving these files over would leave in distribution

* placeholders directories for credentials and log (so that they get created correcty)
* the “doc” directory (where all the license stuff and README and so forth goes)

Which feels about right.

So, at this stage this feels like a good thing to do. But with things being in a state of flux I’m going to leave this alone for a while
