I’m looking at 31.1 right now, and it does have the method. I can’t speak for 28.2. It would have come along with the Java 8 additions they made.

There is no “Maven’s OpenSAML”. There are no versions of OpenSAML available from anywhere but our repository that mean anything, those are modified copies that we did not provide.
