The AccessControl mess is due to having a couple of different wrappers (I don’t think they’re exactly the same code, but I can look at them). There was one that just wrapped the original AccessControlService thing in a reloadable service. The other one is an analog of the one we have for metadata, which wraps the whole component abstraction in a new facade that implements AccessControlService while internally going the pin/unpin locking within the single call.
