My issue with it is just whether the health check would accurately reflect the state of their UI layer. I’m not convinced it does because that would presuppose a truly organized effort to update it whenever they have outages, and I don’t buy that because I’m not that optimistic.

If it did work, the idea is that it would detect via back-channel a situation where the front-channel redirect won’t work, and then you catch it in time and even if you fail closed, you prevent stranding the user.

I agree with adding the option, but at least nominally it serves a purpose.
