mvn versions:set is an outlier in that it is only ever run during a full product release. For that reason we have been caught (twice now) because the plugin or its dependencies have acquired a new signer.

To avoid last minute fire fights it would be good to have aCI job dedicated to exactly that. I’m thinking of running it nightly and for it to do te following (in a dedicated repo)

* checkout java-support
* mvn versions:set (to 99.99.99-SNAPSHOT)
* mvn install -D skipTests

* In the absence of a command like to do it as per https://shibboleth.atlassian.net/browse/JMVN-33
