For posterity and since I don’t know the cause yet, I will note that using a logback that didn’t match the container module’s version seemed to work for basic logging but did NOT work for request logging via that class. I don’t understand the mechanism by which that would be possible, but that’s what I observed.

We should assume that we do need to keep the Jetty lib/logging tree populated with the “right” logback jars.

I would add that we need to include the jcl-over-slf4j jar as well because of Spring.
