These files are there to pin directories in git. They do not need to be part of a installed system.

Two possibilities:

* Remove them when the distribution is being built
* Remove them at install time

I hate both maven (which does the former) and ant (which does the latter) equally but doing the latter will probably be easier to achieve (particularly since long term I’m going to remove any from the while equation)
