So it turns out that the only jar that the tests will run without is hibernate-commons-annotations, everything else dies with a CalssNotFoundException

I also discovered the link for submitting bugs ( https://hibernate.atlassian.net/secure/Dashboard.jspa ). And of note might be https://hibernate.atlassian.net/browse/HHH-14604 and https://hibernate.atlassian.net/browse/HHH-14604

I am happy to throw in a bug (“During an audit of our security product for supply chain attacks….”) but this might have more weight coming from Scott?
