There are a number of use cases where serialising XML (or DOM metadata in general) to JSON would be useful.

Obviously one could write an XML -> JSON serialiser stage for each use case, and one possibility would be to provide a framework to permit this to be done more easily.  Another alternative would be to implement a generic JSON serialiser which operated from a specific XML schema which was equivalent to the JSON data model (containing elements for arrays, objects, etc.) and rely on XSLT to convert from the original XML vocabulary to that schema.
